1.24.2010  The Grand Rapids Press:  City income tax gets little support
KENTWOOD -- The City Commission is exploring several options to cut costs and increase revenues, but one idea that did not gain a lot of support was a city income tax.  "I think part of the attractiveness of this city is that we do not have an income tax, and I would be absolutely against it," Commissioner Ray VerWys said.  Mayor Richard Root said some business and industry owners might prefer an income tax rather than continued increases in property taxes.  "The question is:  Who is it attractive to?" he asked.  Root said he also does not support an income tax right now, but commissioners need to consider it as well as all other options.
